Helping hand gives healthy satisfaction
FOR the past four years patients at Cairns Private Hospital have been greeted by a customer service professional.
Kim Tagget took on a role as a medical receptionist after working in customer relations at the Pullman hotel group.
Leaping at an opportunity at the Upward St hospital, Ms Tagget was excited to expand upon her knowledge and experience in customer service.
Medical receptionists maintain hard-copy patient records, schedule patients’ appointments and provide patients with support and guidance.
With more than 20 years’ experience in reception work, the cheery face at the front of the hospital finds her newest role rewarding.
“The best part of the job is seeing the improvement in health and quality of life for patients after they are discharged from hospital,” Ms Tagget said.
“Assisting families on their healthcare journey with Ramsay Health is an important part of the job for me.”
A “sense of job satisfaction” means Ms Tagget would recommend the position to anyone.
“Working in health in any capacity is a rewarding experience,” she said.
“The most interesting thing about the job is developing a professional rapport with our clientele throughout their hospital visits.
“Being an inpatient in hospital is a particularly vulnerable position for people, so it takes patience and understanding to realise when they are scared of the situation and not frustrated at you personally.
“Every day is a learning opportunity, from the nuances of different health covers to organising self-funding estimates.
“Everything we do behind the desk requires different learned skills.”
