Josep Crijen (letters, 28/12) cites Germany and Japan as economic role models. Germany thinks windmills, open borders and money-printing are the go. That won’t end well. Japan rejects windmills and immigration, but relies on ever- growing debt. Also won’t end well. If we want jobs and growth we’ve got to get out of the way of employers. The Donald knows this. That’s why he’s winning. Higgs, Tolga

What does the community want? Juvenile detention officers who go hard on low life car thieves etc. Don’t cry out when they do. A swift kick-up the rear end would be a good start for some. Reader, Bungalow

Nobody resents paying tax to fund the age pension (CP, 29/12), but DSP for drug abusers is a sick joke. Miss T, Tolga

Voteforlife (28/12). Abortion is not about political parties, it is about making abortion a health issue, not a criminal issue About 70 per cent of Queenslanders agree. Caz, Redlynch
