WHEN EVERYTHING JUST TURNED TO GOLD

-

Q What’s the best tournament you played?

A

The biggest tournament I won was the Loch Ness challenger. I never got to see it (Loch Ness) because I was playing so well. That tournament I was seeded third or fourth and it was leading up to the Commonwealth Games. I was so relaxed and wellprepared. I think I even started having a beer after the games because I was feeling so good. People were getting uptight about it but I was fine. The semi-final went for two hours and then I got to the final and I beat the second seed. Everything just turned to gold and I was on a high for it, which helped me cement my spot for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glas- gow. That was huge for me because it was one of the biggest tournaments I won and it helped me get into the Games.

Q What were those Games like? A

Unbelievable. There are so many amazing athletes. I tried to take in as much of it as I could, especially being in the village surrounded by some of the best athletes in the world. The opening ceremony for me was amazing, waiting to go into Celtic Park. I couldn’t believe it. That experience I’ll never forget. When I played, I felt so much pressure on myself because I was wearing the green and gold. It was unlike when I was just playing for myself in a tournament. Once I did though, it was so cool and really enjoyable.
