Toads to show no mercy on Atherton’s big day

-

JACOB GRAMS MULGRAVE players will be out to spoil Atherton’s party and relish a raucous atmosphere at Loder Park today.

The ladder leaders are on a five-match winning streak and head up to the Tableland as Atherton’s old boys gather to cheer 30 years in the Cricket Far North competition.

Mulgrave spinner Will Rob- ertson said a one-sided game against Rovers may not have been the best preparation for what is expected to be a tough match, but backed a near fullstrength squad to back up a win over Atherton in the twodayers prior to Christmas.

“We heard there was a do going on up there, but we’ll take our best side up there and hopefully get a bit of an edge,” Robertson said.

The Toads will still be miss- ing all-rounder Jake Roach, while Atherton will be without Gerard Fox. The pair wrap up the Australian Country Cricket Championships today.

Robertson has lifted a cog this season when called on, boasting 13 wickets at a remarkable average of 7.46.

In 53 overs, the left-arm orthodox bowler has still yet to concede 100 runs.

While Robertson said he was still learning to perfect his craft, his confidence was boosted on the backing of skipper Jacob Stanton.

“Jacob’s basically said to us the squad we had against Atherton in the two-dayer was our strongest squad and the one we’re going to be looking to take to the grand final,” he said.

Norths and Rovers play another crucial match at Griffiths Park today in the race for third spot on the ladder.

A win to Rovers would give Norths a tough road ahead if they have finals aspirations.

Barron will be looking for their third win over United this season at Crathern Park today.
