Probe launched after man crushed to death at farm
WORKPLACE Health and Safety officers are investigating the death of a man reportedly crushed on a Tablelands’ farm.
A 47-year-old man was pronounced dead at Mt Garnet after it is believed he was crushed between a truck and a storage silo.
Police were called to the rural property near the town 160km south-west of Cairns just after 4pm yesterday.
Initial investigations suggested a large truck carrying equipment had been reversing when the man became trapped between it and the silo.
Cairns District Duty Officer Acting Senior Sergeant Steve Heemi said many emergency service crews, including scenes of crime, the Atherton Criminal Investigation Branch and Forensic Crash Unit were sent to the scene.
Snr Sgt Heemi said the in- vestigation was in the early stages and that WHS would be the lead agency on the matter.
A WHS spokesman said yesterday that an investigator and inspector had been sent to the scene.
