My Cairns

I’ve lived in Cairns for six years. I worked in Sydney and retired here. I’d been coming to Cairns since the mid-80s. I have friends up here and I always liked the place, and I hate the cold, and found Sydney cold. So I like the warmth and the relaxed lifestyle of Cairns. Plus the connectivity. That’s very important, because you get cheap flights and frequent flights back to family in Sydney and a trip to Melbourne or whatever — and even to Japan, for that matter. I worked in property management. I don’t miss it. In my spare time now, I do gardening, cooking, learning Italian, doing some research work on railways — that’s my big hobby and interest, photography, and just being in the pool, at the beach, and that sort of thing.
