SHARING THE LOVE

-

Q Do you think you enjoy coaching more than playing?

A

I think the two are very different. The hardest thing as a coach is that I can’t be in control of what they’re doing. It’s a different feeling. It’s hard when you give someone a plan and you think: ‘Why did you do that?’ It can be very frustrating. I get a similar level of satisfaction out of it though. We’ve built something largely off word of mouth. For one, having two full-time coaches in a regional town is quite rare. It’s almost unheard of. At the end of the day, we want it to grow. It’s not just about the top level. We want to get a core group together where if they want to go professional, that’s great. I know that it’s not for everyone but we want to at least give them the opportunity to see where they can go. It’s happening quite slowly but there’s a lot of talent around and it’s quite good to see.
