A VACANT Cairns warehouse will be transformed into a gym and indoor recreational facility under a development proposal before the regional council.

Under the plan, the 4500sq m lot at 77-91 Scott St, Bungalow, will be home to a comprehensive gym featuring consulting rooms, workout areas, meditation room, a cafe, storage area, children’s room and office.

The Scott St site currently comprises two buildings, one of which is the Dulux Trade Centre.

The development application, lodged with Cairns Regional Council earlier this month, relates to an 816sq m tenancy in the adjacent building.

The applicants, Jake Masters and Cassandra Olholm, currently run a “fitness and nutrition studio” on Lake St.

“The success of the business means that the applicants have outgrown the Lake St space and they wish to expand their business and client base,” says the development application completed by Planz Town Planning.

“The proposal allows the surrounding residential and industry workers better access to a gym which will help promote a healthy lifestyle.

“They have both grown up locally in Cairns, and plan to operate the gym ‘The Ground’.

“In addition to the gym, the vacant spaces will allow for an- cillary services to complement the gym and health and fitness consultation business including, massages, physiotherapy, yoga/meditation, and a small cafe area.”

According to the proposal, the new gym would operate group fitness classes for up to 40 clients at once.
