Rio Tinto appointee
RIO Tinto has appointed Moya Greene as an independent nonexecutive director. Ms Greene, CEO of Royal Mail Group, will join the board in the second half of 2018. Paul Tellier, a nonexecutive director since 2007, has indicated he will step down from the board at the conclusion of the Rio Tinto annual general meeting to be held in Melbourne on May 2. The company also announced this week it would invest $400,000 a year until 2020 to provide employees with extensive professional development and external accreditation opportunities through the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.
Entrepreneurs gather
SOME of the world’s most recognisable business people and entrepreneurs will be in Queensland in April for a premiere trade and investment program during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The line-up for the Cairns’ program is yet to be announced.
Wet Tropics funding
TEN Wet Tropics rainforest Aboriginal groups will share in $130,000 of grants. The cash comes from Terrain NRM and the Wet Tropics Management Authority program via the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program. Groups funded are: Mungalla Aboriginal Corporation; Girringun Aboriginal Corporation on behalf of KinjufileGulnay Traditional Owners; Dulabed Malanbarra and Yidinji Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC; Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corp; Mamu Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC; Abriculture; Mandingalbay Yidinji Aboriginal Corp PBC; Djunbunji Ltd; Bana Yarralji Bubu Bayan Kabanji Inc; and Western Yalanji Aboriginal Corp RNTBC. Gulnay Traditional Owner Clarence Kinjun said the group would be using film to record the cultural and environmental values of the Tully River for the Gulnay people.
