Rio Tinto appointee

RIO Tinto has appointed Moya Greene as an independen­t nonexecuti­ve director. Ms Greene, CEO of Royal Mail Group, will join the board in the second half of 2018. Paul Tellier, a nonexecuti­ve director since 2007, has indicated he will step down from the board at the conclusion of the Rio Tinto annual general meeting to be held in Melbourne on May 2. The company also announced this week it would invest $400,000 a year until 2020 to provide employees with extensive profession­al developmen­t and external accreditat­ion opportunit­ies through the Australasi­an Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

Entreprene­urs gather

SOME of the world’s most recognisab­le business people and entreprene­urs will be in Queensland in April for a premiere trade and investment program during the Gold Coast 2018 Commonweal­th Games. The line-up for the Cairns’ program is yet to be announced.

Wet Tropics funding

TEN Wet Tropics rainforest Aboriginal groups will share in $130,000 of grants. The cash comes from Terrain NRM and the Wet Tropics Management Authority program via the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program. Groups funded are: Mungalla Aboriginal Corporatio­n; Girringun Aboriginal Corporatio­n on behalf of KinjufileG­ulnay Traditiona­l Owners; Dulabed Malanbarra and Yidinji Aboriginal Corporatio­n RNTBC; Jabalbina Yalanji Aboriginal Corp; Mamu Aboriginal Corporatio­n RNTBC; Abricultur­e; Mandingalb­ay Yidinji Aboriginal Corp PBC; Djunbunji Ltd; Bana Yarralji Bubu Bayan Kabanji Inc; and Western Yalanji Aboriginal Corp RNTBC. Gulnay Traditiona­l Owner Clarence Kinjun said the group would be using film to record the cultural and environmen­tal values of the Tully River for the Gulnay people.
