CAIRNS CONTINGENT

-

The Lions have got two former AFL Cairns players on their list this season in Leah Kaslar (right) and Breanna Koenen. How have you seen their growth over the two seasons of AFLW?

ALeah is vice-captain again this year and she is such a competitor. She is so tough. Good luck to anyone that has to play on her. She is someone who dominated their position and is building such a strong reputation right around Australia. If you can get a touch while Leah is playing on you, then you are going good. Breanna is probably the same. She is really cementing her role in the team as a running halfback. She took the most intercept marks in our club last season and this season she is in fantastic condition and running very good times. We have seen the results of that this season already.

North Cairns product Selina Goodman has missed out on a spot with the Lions next season. What are your thoughts on her chances going forward?

AShe has got all of the physical attributes that AFLW clubs are looking for. We told everyone that missed out on our second season that the ball was in their court and their futures depended on how hard you work and the effort you put into your craft. Hopefully the disappointment of missing out on an AFLW list in 2018 will spur Selina on in the future because she is a very determined person. She is in the right age bracket and has the height, which is lacking across the league. As long as she puts in the work, I have no doubt she will be back on the scene soon enough.
