PLAN AHEAD

CAIRNS Regional Council’s masterplan will not be without its detractors. Both the Marlin Coast Polocrosse Club and the Cairns Horse and Pony Club will lose their positions in the sporting precinct. Division 9 Cr Brett Olds said the polocrosse club on Nautilus St had not hosted a game in more than a decade and simply rented out the land it leased from council to horse owners for agistment. “The polocrosse already operates out of Gordonvale, so that’s where they will go,” he said. Cr Olds said the pony club only had a handful of members and consolidated with clubs at Freshwater and Redlynch. He said the council was trying to ensure the precinct was used to its maximum benefit and both clubs would be better off moving elsewhere.
