Excitement at the Esplanade Live Site

-

WITH a buzz in the air for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, those looking to get caught up in the celebrations can head along to the Cairns Esplanade Live Site.

The Live Site will host Festival 2018, running from the opening ceremony the night before the games on April 4 throughout a 12-day showcase of music, art and culture.

The main attraction will be the big screens streaming the games on the eastern side of the lagoon, letting the crowds experience the action live.

Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said residents and tourists could look forward to seeing what the city had to offer.

“Restaurants will be extending their dining areas out toward the waterfront to cre- ate a really special atmosphere and some will be setting up food stalls for takeaway options,” he said.

Work is set to get under way on the Live Site next Wednesday and Thursday ahead of the games.

The Cairns Esplanade road will be closed to all traffic between Aplin Street and Shields Street for the duration of the festival.

Full road closures will apply from 4am on April 3 to 4pm April 16.
