Soggy field delays Shield
DAY one of the Sheffield Shield final between Queensland and Tasmania has been called off because of a sodden outfield at Allan Border Field in Brisbane.
Umpires took a final inspection of the surface at 3pm yesterday but ruled it was still unsuitable for play – despite sunshine and blue skies overhead.
Rain hadn’t fallen since mid-morning, but heavier showers earlier in the week and poor drainage at the venue has handed Queensland, who need only a draw to win the five-day decider, a considerable advantage.
