Heron soaks up every chance

-

The lightning quick teenager has remained on the Gold Coast instead of travelling to his former home, as the Suns NEAFL side play Palm Beach Currumbin in a scratch match today before the NEAFL season starts early next month.

“I am not too sure how close I was to selection in the JLT games this preseason but hopefully I am not too far off,” Heron said.

“I have to just focus on keeping training hard and giving myself every opportunity and hopefully my time will come soon. I am looking forward to getting into proper games soon in the NEAFL.”

The Suns academy graduate has spent much of his first preseason training with the club’s defenders but a recent shift to the forward 50 has Heron smiling. The utility has been working closely with Suns regulars Darcy Macpher- son and Ben Ainsworth, learning the offensive craft.

“I have just recently been moved from down back to the forward line, which I am really enjoying,” Heron said. “The coaches have told me to focus on the pressure forward role, the tackling and putting on as much manic pressure as possible.”

The Suns play Aspley in a fortnight in the NEAFL season opener and Heron will get his first chance to push for selection.
