TAKING A LONG VIEW

-

Q You mentioned before that you’re not the youngest player anymore. At the end of the season you’re an unrestricted free agent. Have you given any thought to life after football? A A little bit. There’s no real rush at this stage. I’m so focused on this season, I haven’t even thought about next year, to be honest. I’m starting to do a fair bit of mentoring work with my brother, Marc, who runs Harbrow Mentoring and I see it as a career path post-football. It’s at a point where we’re doing some really good things and I’m helping out wherever I can. Later today, I’m going to catch up with some young boys from Trinity Bay State High School and I enjoy it. Q Do you think you’ll call Cairns home when you retire? A Possibly. We’ll see where things take me after foot- ball. I definitely see myself coming back at some stage but I can’t really make a decision right now. Q Who do you see taking that next step for the Suns this season and emerging as standout players within the club? A I think Jack Martin ( right) is going to take another step. I see him every day at training and he’s going to go to another level. He’s always had the talent but he’s had a few injuries. But there are a lot of guys I see improving. Jack Bowes, Darcy McPherson and Brayden Fiorini have all really improved this preseason. With Jack I think he’s worked super hard on the track and in the gym. It was always going to happen for Jack. He’s a fairly gifted sort of footballer with great skills. He uses the ball so well. I think he’ll have a good year.
