CHURCHES across Cairns are spreading a message of hope this Easter.

Calvary Christian Church was just one of Far Northern churches that hosted thousands of Christians for Good Friday services.

Calvary Christian Church Cairns campus pastor Michelle Fredericks said more than 350 people attended the church at Edge Hill State School yesterday morning to commemorate Good Friday with hundreds more expected tomorrow.

Pastor Fredericks said Easter weekend was a time to reflect on the state of the world and to hold on to hope for the future. “The world as it stands at the moment needs hope,” she said. “Easter is a time of celebration and reflection. When we have that relationship with Jesus we can walk in that hope.”

She said a big Easter Sunday was planned for the church, which would include Easter egg hunts, a film screenings and water baptisms.

“We’re quite deliberate to remind ourselves about the meaning behind this holiday and to celebrate on Sundays,” Pastor Fredericks said.

Churches in the Far North will continue celebrating Easter today and tomorrow with services across the region.
