Gearing up for race meet
REVHEADS across the Far North are gearing up for a day of down and dirty stock car racing at Herberton’s Tepon Raceway.
Tableland Competition Car Club’s second race meet of the year on Sunday, is expected to attract up to 20 drivers.
Vice President and experienced driver Geoff Schulz said the competition often attracted drivers from across the Tablelands, Walkamin, Mareeba and Cairns.
“Our main focus is we try to keep it as grassroots racing ... racing in the bush,” he said.
“We have three grades of racing and we use two tracks, the speedway oval track and the circuit track, which we use in the afternoon.
“We’re one of the few race tracks that has two tracks.”
Tableland Competition Car Club is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary and will hold an event in September to mark the significant milestone.
“The club is in an excellent position this year because we’ve received a grant to build a new safety fence and we’ve got a really great group of people running the club,” Mr Schulz said.
Racing will start at 10am on Sunday and run until about 4pm.
Anyone interested in racing can sign up on the day.
