HEADING BACK TO BEST

-

QA stress fracture in your lower back temporarily derailed the comeback but you are now on top of the injury and hopeful of a Cairns return to Ironman racing. What has gone into the rehab for your back?

AMy back is all better now but it took me out for a while and I am back running now. I am just carefully trying to cram to see if I can get to a start line soon. I did Ironman 70.3 Busselton recently but I want to do a full Ironman soon. I am hoping to get to the start line of Ironman Cairns. It probably is too early but we will see. Either way I am really excited to be part of the race again because over the three years I raced it, and having also been there as a spectator, I have really grown to love the Cairns community and the event. It is a really awesome community up there that really gets behind the race. I had a baby last year and did not race much so I do not have heaps of points now. It is a bit tactical the decision about if I race in Cairns so we will see. I will see how my body pulls up from Busselton and weigh up some other races too.

QThe Asia-Pacific Championships status of the event must be a bonus that adds a number of other dimensions in Cairns?

AIt has the extra points, it draws a stronger field and it has more kudos, so it brings a whole lot of extra factors into play. At this race, even more than others I have done, everyone is very encouraging of each other out there on the run course.
