PRESTIGE HOMES
WHERE LIFE’S A BEACH
CAIRNS beaches have always vaunted the city’s most luxurious and priciest properties but the number open for inspection today exceed what is usually on offer in the prestige category.
At Kewarra Beach, 28A Joseph Banks Close, 10-12 Ramsey Close and 52 Kewarra St are on the market for well over the million-dollar mark throughout the day.
Just down the road at Trinity Park, 81 Harbour Drive and 7 Brindabella Quay also offer potential buyers a glimpse of what close to $2m can get.
Real Estate Institute of Queensland Far North zone chairman Tom Quaid said he had received a surprising amount of interest for the Kewarra St property his employer, Quaid Real Estate, was selling.
“By design there is a relatively restrained supply of absolutely beachfront properties in Cairns,” he said.
“You’re looking at a small stretch of Holloways Beach, a street at Kewarra Beach and less than a handful of homes in Trinity Beach. Most of these homes fall into two categories: either they have been owned under a single family ownership for an extended period of time and they’ve never been motivated to move, or, on the other hand, people have been attracted to the area by these positions to create a dream home.
“Those kind of homes tend to transact relatively rarely, one because of the price point, and two, because they are often a secondary home. It’s there for part-time use or leisure use, up to when they don’t need it anymore.
“We are getting quite good interest considering the price range and there have been about half a dozen sales a year in that category, so we are hoping to be able to find owners.”
Elite Real Estate Services agent Shira David Stern said with the Ironman this weekend, all eyes would be on the region and its enviable lifestyle. She said a number of people were “very excited” to view 28A Joseph Banks Close at Kewarra Beach.
“I sold a few million-dollar homes last year and a few this year. I think this is definitely the time of year we see the level of interest in any property in Cairns picking up. Traditionally, as the temperature drops, people come out to see what is on offer,” she said.
“I think this particular weekend is great for Cairns … The expectation is people’s eyes are on us and they might go home and have a think of moving up here because it’s just so stunning. The beaches do have some of the finest homes in the region.”
