Speedy Allebi has already put stamp on Cairns attack
JORDAN GERRANS CAIRNS FC winger Gianni Allebi is happy with his form since signing with the club but says there is always room for improvement.
The 21-year-old Chileanborn Australian citizen scored the club’s only goal in their loss a fortnight ago to North Queensland United as well as assisting a Chris O’Hare goal in the draw with Olympic FC at Barlow Park earlier this month.
The former Beaumaris SC attacker has scored three goals in eight NPL games since arriving as a mid-season recruit.
With Cairns to host West Australian club Armadale on Wednesday night in the FFA Cup, coach Danny Graystone says he will tinker with his squad tonight against Magpies Crusaders FC to prepare for the Round of 32 match.
As Allebi is cup-tied, expect the Cairns FC boss to call on his winger for a big performance against the Mackaybased club.
“It was a great time to come into the club — everyone has made me feel at home,” Allebi said.
“The boys have made my transition from Melbourne to Cairns really easy.
“I am happy with the way I have been going — you can always improve, always watching the games to see what I can do better. Hopefully I can bring my best every single game.”
Graystone says Allebi has provided the run and dash he was hoping for when he nabbed the livewire.
“He could potentially go quite far if he keeps the mentality that he has got,” Graystone said.
“He has improved as he has progressed with us, he listens and gives us stability out wide.”
Skipper Jamie Carroll will miss today with a slight hamstring concern.
Former FNQ Heat vicecaptain and defender Ari Isman will come into the squad for today’s game as well as Wednesday’s contest.
With little to play for in the NPL, the Far North club have turned much of their attention to a dream FFA Cup run and Graystone will rest some of his squad tonight to prepare.
“We would be stupid not to but we are not sure exactly which way we will go with it yet,” Graystone said.
“We will have an eye on Wednesday for this week’s game. We want to go into Wednesday’s game as strong as we can.”
