Every man and his son fight for bragging rights

- JORDAN GERRANS HOCKEY

THE big-time State of Origin series was run and won by New South Wales just recently but a Cairns Hockey Association club are putting their own spin on the famous shield.

Saints Hockey Club will today contest the “Saints of Origin” between their two Bgrade clubs after the teams split their two earlier meetings and are tied at 1-1.

Saints president Maurice Andrejic has encouraged all the Saints Hockey old boys from years gone by to come and watch the big game that will pit mate against mate today.

“The Saints red team took out the first game 7-2, with the blue team winning 3-1 in the return game two weeks ago,” Andrejic said.

“The red team were previously undefeated and have already won the minor premiership with four games to play.

“Currently the red team is in first place, and are minor premiers already, while the blue boys are equal second, third on countback. “So with both teams in contention for the finals it is a true testament to the depth of the Club.”

Playing for the Saints of Origin will also be a family affair for Andrejic with his son Lachlan playing with the president in the blue team with his other son Ethan in the red.

There are four sets of fathers and sons in the game.

The game starts at 4.45pm this afternoon.
