“We have a vested interest in providing history in the Cairns area for military related vehicles,” he said.

Event co-ordinator Michael Musumeci said memorabili­a such as vehicles and books helped educate future generation­s about past conflicts.

“It’s an event to remember and honour the serving and non-serving veterans of all conflicts,” he said. “We’ve always had a very strong support from far north Queensland and they always have been overwhelmi­ngly supportive about bringing back yesteryear.” Gates open at the Mareeba Turf Club 8am-5pm today, with a bar and entertainm­ent until 10pm, then reopens tomorrow from 8am-12pm. with, coupled with a lack of education, alcohol and drugs and you have a picture of what is going on.”

A purpose-fitted building in Earlville for the project is near completion.

Outreach and anger diversion courses have also been carried out in the Cape and most recently Yarrabah, by the Kappani Warrior program.

Cairns judge Tracy Fantin this week threw light on domestic violence in Aboriginal communitie­s when she convicted Yarrabah man Dale Creed for strangling and beating his pregnant girlfriend in 2017.

“Domestic violence is a terrible problem in the communitie­s, especially Yarrabah,” Judge Fantin said.
