Wedding wins over plenty of wellwishers

-

CANBERRA’S political chaos hasn’t hurt Cairns with a rainbow wedding set to bridge the red/blue political divide in November.

TNQ LGBT Wedding Competition winners Scott Forbes and Chris Higgins have invited Federal Liberal MP Warren Entsch, Labor MP Craig Crawford and Queensland Speaker Curtis Pitt to their ceremony – with all planning to attend.

“Entschy actually offered to walk me down the aisle,” said former Queensland Government media adviser Scott Forbes.

“Unfortunately for him, my mum had already beaten him to that job.

“The great thing about Far Northern politicians is that the Far North always comes first, so we’re thrilled they’re coming along to support us and the generous businesses that backed this extraordinary competition.

“Our reception guest list is capped at 50, but some of our Cairns family and friends will come to witness the ceremony on the beach, although I suspect they’re more interested in seeing the extraordinary grounds at Trinity Beach Palace than witnessing our service,” he laughed.

Scottish expat Chris Higgins said he was more worried about the tropical climate than the political climate at the wedding – with temperatures forecast to hit in the 30s and the humidity sure to soar.

“We’ll see how the Brits will go wearing kilts on a beach in the tropics in summer,” he said.

“Fortunately the team at The Vintage Hire Company has done an incredible job of coming up with design solutions that incorporate Scottish embellishments into the contemporary tropical aesthetic we’re going for.

There’s crisp white cane furniture to keep things bright and breezy and lots of botanicals to keep things green.

“My family’s surname is En- glish, not Scottish, luckily the Forbes clan has a tartan and it’s green, which will match the theme.

“We’re still pinching ourselves about the prize package after meeting with the amazing local suppliers, who’ve made planning so easy. I think my niece and nephew are more excited for the fireworks than their pageboy and flower girl duties.”

The couple’s prize includes: return business class airfares, accommodation, ceremony and reception at Trinity Beach, styling, furniture and florals, fireworks, catering, photography and videography, DJ entertainment, a confetti cannon, a photo booth, a civil celebrant, transport, a wedding cake and makeup and hair styling.
