Since 1908, those to have scored more than 150 tries are: Ken Irvine, Billy Slater, Steve Menzies, Andrew Ettingshausen, Terry Lamb, Brett Stewart, Matt Sing, Hazem El Masri, Nathan Merritt, Harold Horder and Manu Vatuvei.

When told he was sitting on 149 tries, Inglis said: “Oh really. It’s one of those things that goes into the record books.

“One day when I’m fat and old I will get to brag about it.

“It’s something for later in life. You can sit back and … tell your grandkids. As a fat, old bloke, they will probably say: ‘No, you didn’t’.

“It is always good to cross the line, even better when you do it and get the win as well.

“It’s one of those things – being in the right place at the right time.”

Inglis will need to be at his best against the giant-killing Dragons, who smashed Brisbane by 30 points last Sunday.

“The Dragons are red hot,” Inglis said. “I said at the captain’s call going into the finals that St George Illawarra would be the side that would be very hard to beat.

“They didn’t leave anything in the tank against Brisbane. They were just ruthless from the word go. Their intent was there from the kick-off when they received the ball.

“It’s a tough competition, so to get to play finals footy is re- markable. To be able to advance further on the big stage, it will take a lot.

“This is finals football so anything can happen.”

Despite loving Queensland and having lived in Melbourne, Inglis plans to settle in Sydney after football. In fact, he wants to continue working and representing South Sydney.

“I will stay here. There have been chats going on in the background to put my mind at ease and know where I’m going in the next few years,” Inglis said.

“When I finish up I would like to stay around the club. The club has been outstanding, tremendous for me. They have been really supportive.”
