Top new marriage spot close to reality

- CHRIS CALCINO

A SLICE of paradise surrounded by rainforest and cane fields is likely to become one of the Far North’s newest spots to tie the knot.

A development application before Cairns Regional Council reveals the plan to create a wedding venue on a 13ha property on Gray Rd in Green Hill, east of Packers Camp.

The report says the applicant Jenna Lee Snow “has experience in providing services to weddings and scoping out venues” and was the daughter of the landholder.

“She has identified that a minor but significant proportion of the market seek a venue that is unconventional, natural, private and will make their wedding something special,” it continues.

Four sites have been earmarked for ideal wedding locations, including one relatively small setting framed by trees and featuring a large granite boulder.

“It is intended to run this business on a very flexible basis, catering for the individual needs and expectations of the clients,” the report says.

Minimal physical construction will be required on the site at first. “Facilities that are initially provided on a temporary or as necessary basis will be established as permanent fixtures,” the application says.

The wedding industry is booming in Australia, estimated to be worth more than $2 billion a year.
