Suburbs out to keep dream alive

-

SOUTHERN Suburbs coach Richard Grogan led Yarrabah to a reserve grade premiership in 2015, but will be out to deny the Seahawks in tonight’s decider.

The Cockatoos will be the underdogs in this evening’s match, but Grogan said his side could get the job done.

“The boys have got themselves pumped up and are keen to go,” he said.

“We just have to make sure we control the game a little bit better. We have been going strong at the start and letting teams back into it.”

Five-eighth Kody Oliver and No.8 Ricky Macri will be key players for Suburbs.

Grogan said he was confident Macri would lead the side well.

“I actually took the captaincy off him midway through the year because he was struggling a bit,” the coach said.

“But he responded really well and earnt the right to lead the boys out on the field again.

“He’s one of our most important players.”

Yarrabah, coached by Cornelius Richards, will rely on former A-grade star Coleridge Dabah as well as Clifford Ambrym and Oscar Fourmile to get the job done.

The Seahawks won their way into the grand final by beating Mareeba 40-30 in the major semi-final, while the Cockatoos overcame the Gators 34-30 in last week’s preliminary final.

In the under-19 grand final, Brothers will be expected to beat the Kangaroos.

Spectators should be treated to a high scoring contest, with both teams boasting plenty of firepower in attack.

Brothers fullback Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow will prove a handful, while Kangaroos will look to gun halfback Connor Rothery to lead them to a premiership.
