Top talent time as stars line up

have plenty of opportunities to impress with the weekend’s first match, a T20, yesterday afternoon, followed by two 50over one-dayers today and tomorrow.

“We batted first and got 125, but South Queensland chased it down with two overs to spare,” said Stanger after yesterday’s game.

“Our top order did all right and set a good platform, but we kind of crumbled towards the end a bit,” he said.

“We probably didn’t ex- ecute at the end of the game with the ball either.”

Cricket Far North president Peter Huey said the four players were all “very talented cricketers”.

“They’ve done really well in the past, so I’ve got some high hopes for them,” he said.

“I’m hoping North Queensland has put together another good team this year so they can knock off South Queensland again.”

Salerno, Stanger and Roach were all part of the North Queensland side last year, with Warnock the “newbie”.

“It’s a great opportunity for Angus, who can possibly grab a guernsey himself,” Huey said.

“Chris made the Australian Country side last year, so he’ll be aiming to replicate that for sure. He’s a very talented spinner and an aggressive batsman. With the formats we have these days, it really suits his style of play.”

The Queensland Country team will be announced after the tournament.
