CONSISTENCY TEST KEY

-

Q Ben, we are speaking after the opening day of the Test summer in Adelaide, how did you see the first day of play? A I have been out in the garden for much of the day doing the lawns. Test cricket is not really something that captures me for a full day these days anymore, unfortunately. I have had it on but I do not sit around for the entire day watching it like I used to. I probably do not have the time to sit for a full day like I once would. I am only at home for eight days right now before I head off again so there is lots I need to catch up on and get ready for. I can’t justify the couch time all day (laughs). I am based in Hobart and have been for the last seven years. My family and I like it down here, it is a really relaxed lifestyle. It is chilled out. Q I can’t ask you about what has happened in the first Test because you have not watched much but just generally on the first Test squad, what did you think of the selections? A I think Marcus Harris (pictured) was deserving of his spot. Since he moved to Victoria, he has been a really consistent run-scorer. I always like to see people score runs over a long period of time, instead of having a good month of cricket and then finding themselves in the Australian Cricket team. Test cricket is such a big test and people that have done it for a long period of time in Sheffield Shield cricket, have the best chance to make the most of it and keep their spot. I think he was worthy. I would have loved to see Joe Burns get in there. He is another one who has scored a lot of runs over a long period of time but as we know, you cannot pick everybody.
