CHANGING LANDSCAPE

-

It is funny you mention that. A guy like Ed Cowan (right) needed to make runs for years in Shield cricket to get his first Baggy Green and now it seems like you get three decent scores and suddenly you are in the picture.

AWe all have our part to play in that. Social media has given so many people voices, that being past players, or media outlets leading up to the summer, they need stories to write. Unfortunately, sometimes people are on the wrong side of those stories. Also, past players have such an input these days on the general society’s view on cricketers, saying who is going well and who is not. But, it is good to see a guy like Harris, who has been consistent, get picked.

You have just finished up playing in the official T10 Cricket League in the United Arab Emirates. Matches are 10 overs a side and the duration of a match is 90 minutes. How was that experience?

AIt was a really good lead-up for the Big Bash for me. It was a very high level of competition, some of the best players in the world were there. I am not playing any Shield cricket anymore so a shortened tournament like this, it is a great lead-in for me to play some high quality cricket.

Q ADo you think the 10-over game will get picked up elsewhere?

It has the potential to because the cricket was amazing as a spectacle. Some of the batting over there was phenomenal. We chased 96 down in four overs in one game. That is crazy batting and striking. It is a pretty saturated landscape around the world now with cricket, Test, ODIs, T20s plus all these other tournaments that are popping up around the world. I had a great time playing in this tournament and I think it could have a future but where it sits in the cricket landscape I don’t know.
