JAIL FIGHT ENDS IN BROKEN NOSE FOR A FAR NORTH KILLER

ONE of the Far North’s most notorious murderers has suffered a broken nose after allegedly being assaulted in jail by a former boxing champion following an argument over a coffee cup.

Klaus Andres, 75, is serving a life sentence at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre for murdering his wife Li Ping Cao, then dissolving her body in a wheelie bin full of hydrochloric acid at their Brinsmead home in 2011.

The German national then tipped her liquefied remains down a driveway into a drain with police only finding four porcelain false teeth remaining.

It is alleged Andres had been attempting to hang up his coffee cup on a hook in the tailor room of the jail in August last year when he became in- volved in an argument with convicted drug trafficker, Jose Garcia Lozano, 63.

Spaniard Lozano, a fourtime national middleweight boxing champion, was jailed in 2015 after being busted carrying 2.3kg of cocaine, with a street value of about $1.6 million, through Cairns Airport.

Andres has alleged Lozano moved in front of the hooks so he told him to “get out of my face” and the pair were involved in an altercation.

It is alleged the argument continued later that day after Andres made comments about Spanish people and Lozano punched him several times in the face.

Andres fell to the ground and Lozano allegedly began kicking him before a guard intervened. Andres allegedly suffered a broken nose which is causing ongoing breathing problems, a split eyebrow and head swelling.

Garcia has been charged with serious assault of a person aged over 60 and the case is due to return to court on February 25.
