Wilson expects Mackay success

- JORDAN GERRANS

TOP Tablelands jockey Stephen Wilson would not be making the long trip south to Mackay today if he did not think he had a winner or two in his book of rides.

The Irish hoop has four engagements over the huge 11race card today – two each for the Molino trainers, Alby and Samantha.

“We would not go all that way if we were not confident they would go good,” he said.

Wilson (pictured) watched first-starter Accordian finish stronger than another of his ride’s today, Bobtheac-countant, at Cannon Park earlier this month and believes the three-year-old will be better for the run.

The chestnut gelding, Accordian, got well back in the 1250m maiden but found some rhythm in the straight to beat a couple home.

Apprentice Rachel Shred rode Accordian that day, with Wilson taking the job this afternoon, and the 32-year-old thinks there will be improvement today.

“Accordian got back but the way he hit the line, in that last 200m he was really powering on,” Wilson said.

“Being on a decent track at Mackay, he has drawn well and I gave him a big, big chance.”

The resurgent Kirabo is chasing three straight victories this afternoon after putting together two strong performances to start the year at Atherton and Townsville.

Fellow Far North hoops Wanderson D’Avila and Shred will also ride at Mackay today.
