Battered Bulldogs left baying for revenge

- ROWAN SPARKES

IT’S been a long week for Barron River Cricket Club, as the club tries to forget the almighty pantsing it copped at the hands of Rovers last weekend.

The Bulldogs were bowled out for a paltry 41 runs in a game that coach Ryan Char- rington described as “one for the ages”.

“That one’s not to be discussed again,” he said.

“It was just really disappointing.”

Barron players have been waiting for the chance to redeem themselves ever since and will get the chance at Crathern Park today when they take on competition leaders Mulgrave.

“We’ve got a bit of a rejigged side this weekend with a couple of new faces making their debuts,” said Charrington. “Hopefully the boys will be able to contain Jake Roach and the magnificent season he’s been having.”

Charrington and the Bull- dogs will be well aware of the dangers that Roach poses, after the Mulgrave batsman brought up his season’s maiden ton last weekend.

“He’s a superstar, but I’m confident we have the bowlers to take him on,” he said. “We need to get him early – he’ll give us a chance early and we’ll need to take it. If we don’t get him out early, he will score 200 runs, and I legitimately mean that, especially with the smaller Crathern Park boundary.

“Our boys are nervous but they just also want to play cricket. They want to win another game before the season’s out and knocking off the top of the table would give them all the confidence in the world.”
