Tourism campaigns on hold after travel advice

“There will be further discussion about travel issues before the holidays … the advice is to reconsider the need for unnecessary travel,” Mr Morrison said.
The advice comes after Tasmania became the first state in Australia to close its borders.

TTNQ chief executive Mark Olsen confirmed the peak tourism body would hit the brakes on travel campaigns.
He said the marketing body would focus on supporting those employed in the sector gain wage subsidies and transition into Newstart.
“Our priority is the health and wellbeing of the employees,” Mr Olsen said. “We want to be there to support them.”
Campaigns will cease from Monday.
“We have to stop the spread of the virus first and that means we will be pulling our domestic and local campaign activity,” Mr Olsen said.
“As of Monday we will have no further campaigning until we are clear on what the travel advice is.”
TTNQ has worked tirelessly over the last three months to encourage tourism to Cairns in the wake of international travel bans.
Earlier this month the lobby launched a new marketing campaign to encourage visitors to the Far North.
The region received tens of millions of dollars in federal and state government grants to promote the destinations within Queensland and Australia as well as overseas in the UK, Europe, the US and some Asian markets.
