Classrooms across state

-

Queensland Education Minister Grace Grace yesterday said she was working closely with Mr Tehan and would review Queensland’s situation “in the coming weeks and implement a stated return to normal classes’’.

Australia’s chief medical officer, Dr Brendan Murphy, said the “community risk of having children together in a classroom is low’’, and “most’’ children with COVID-19 caught it from a relative.

But Queensland chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young said she wanted to test more people for COVID-19 before sending all students back to school.

“It might be possible, let’s wait and see rather than predict the future,’’ she said.

MONITORING screen time and watching out for signs of anxiety are among the top tips for parents dealing with students learning from home.

Trinity Anglican School director of innovation, teaching and learning Tim Manea said students, teachers and parents had embraced the school’s remote learning plan “wholeheartedly”.

“As a school that has led the way in the use of technology within the classroom in FNQ, TAS were well positioned to deal with the challenges that occurred when Queensland schools moved into the school closure phase, and we quickly initiated the TAS Remote Learning Plan at the beginning of week 10 in term one,” he said.

“Students have found the lessons delivered remotely to be even more focused on specific areas of content. Lessons delivered both synchronously (recorded live) and asynchronously (prerecorded) have meant that students can use time in class focused upon particular aspects of the curriculum. Using the Microsoft Suite of programs, alongside a virtual learning environment called Stile, students at TAS have embraced learning online in a positive manner, using platforms that encourage students collaboration.

“The TAS Wellness and Activities Program also acknowledges the importance of time spent away from screens, ensuring that students (and staff) stay healthy of both mind and body.

“Never waste a crisis, if we as educators waste the opportunity to grow and learn from this experience it will be a great opportunity lost.”
