Innisfail to make cut: coach

-

MATTHEW McINERNEY

INNISFAIL United coach Yoel Jogiono has declared his Cutters will be among those fighting for a place in the FNQ Women’s Premier League top four this season.

Jogiono is about to start one of the busiest campaigns of his career, as the goalkeeper juggles captaincy duties for the men’s side with coaching the women’s team.

But he has taken the challenge in his stride, declaring both Cutters outfits will be pushing for a finals berth.

Jogiono, who has coached state and championshipwinning futsal teams, said the women’s side would take a mix of youth and experience into the 14-round campaign.

“We’ve welcomed a few new faces to our team but there’s a lot of experience, a lot of older players who have returned,” he said.

“The long break because of

COVID has actually brought a few more players as they can commit to the shorter season.”

The Cutters kick-off their season against JCU Strikers at Pennell Field.

JCU made the preliminary final last year and will be looking to build on that success.

Mareeba United kicked off the season against Southside Comets on Friday, while Stratford hosts league champion Leichhardt at Nick Brko Field on Sunday.
