Cuda to focus on farming
Water, power prices promise
LNP candidate for Hill Nick Cuda will focus on supporting the electorate’s agriculture industry to stimulate the Far North economy if he is elected on October 31.
“The Far North has seen 3000 locals added to the unemployment queue in the last year,” he said.
“The LNP’s economic plan will create jobs in this electorate by supporting farmers and cutting the price of water, because water means jobs.”
Mr Cuda said an LNP government would cut the price of water for SunWater irrigators by almost 20 per cent, implement a tax freeze and support retail electricity price competition through regional Queensland.
Retail competition had slashed average annual bills in southeast Queensland by more than $300 and consumers in Hill could expect similar savings, Mr Cuda said.
“(We) will support families and businesses in Hill with cheaper energy bills and a nonew-tax guarantee,” he said.
He also pledged to fight for funds to fix dangerous road intersections, back a plan to promote extra investment in the state’s health and education services and support the LNP’s crackdown on youth crime.
LNP leader Deb Frecklington said Mr Cuda had the local knowledge to drive change in the electorate if elected.
She said the Atherton farmer had spent his working life in the region and understood what mattered to local communities.
“Jobs are the biggest issue in the Hill electorate,” Ms Frecklington said.
“The LNP is the only party that has a plan to create jobs in Hill and drag the whole of Queensland out of recession.”
Other candidates include Katter’s Australian Party incumbent Shane Knuth, Labor hopeful Michael Hodgkins, and independent Peter Campion, a former firefighter who lives at Tolga.
