Tablelands naturopath has vital advice for women

- SARAH NICHOLSON

A FAR North healer is coming to the rescue of women looking to fall pregnant after sustained use of the contraceptive pill.

Tablelands naturopath, nutritionist and herbalist Pettina Jaques developed Mummies in the Making as a “beginners course” on falling pregnant because of lack of resources on preparing the body for a baby.

“There are plenty of programs for women having trouble conceiving, but it’s much harder for women to find information when they have only just begun,” she said.

“They’re hearing stories of other women finding it hard to conceive and just want to know more about how it works, what a normal cycle looks like, and what signs to look for that could mean something may be unbalanced.

“There is anecdotal advice available on different social media platforms but it can be difficult to sift through this information to discover how it applies to them and what they should be doing.”

Ms Jaques, from Mareeba’s Inspired Health Centre, said the program would provide information on developing a “good-quality egg”.

“I’ll be recommending to have lots of sex, as really it is no secret that it can be as easy as that,” she said.

“But what I’m most passionate about offering is why it’s important, in the 100 days it takes to mature an egg for ovulation, that you are giving your body specific nutrients that will help create the best-quality egg.

“Women don’t need to wait until they’ve been trying for a year before taking action to improve their fertility and chances for a healthy pregnancy.

“This delay in the period returning naturally has many women asking questions if there are things they could be doing, or herbs and foods they should be eating, to help speed up the process.”
