Pride duo’s prediction for grand finals
THE winner of Saturday's CDRL A-grade grand final will depend on who controls possession, according to Northern Pride’s Ty Williams and Cameron Miller.
The Pride’s head coach and operations manager will join the Cairns Post’s Matthew McInerney in the commentary box for the livestream of all three grand finals at Barlow Park, which subscribers can access on the Cairns Post website or by scanning the QR code to the right.
And both Pride officials had a similar view of how the Agrade decider will unfold.
Miller, known as “Spilla” in rugby league circles, is a passionate advocate for the sport in North Queensland. He’s served in official capacities, such as coaching or training, for local teams in Cairns and Townsville, as well as the Pride over the years.
He also hosts “Spilla’s Sports Show”, a weekly roundup show of Cairns, Townsville and Mackay competitions, highlighting the passion he has for the game.
“Local rugby league is passionate. There’s so many emotions involved, and so many attachments across the clubs, and families across generations,” Miller said.
As for a prediction, Miller said he expected Yarrabah’s post-season surge to continue for one more weekend due to their penchant for ad lib, eyesup footy, but expected a tough, grinding yet entertaining contest between the two teams.
“It’s going to be a great game. Everyone’s excited by Yarrabah’s momentum, and Innisfail is a big, powerful side,” Miller said.
For Williams, the last man to coach the Leprechauns to an A-grade premiership in 2015, it will be decided by who controls the Steeden.
“If Yarrabah gets 50 per cent of the possession, I think they win,” Williams said.
“But if it tips 60-40 in favour of Innisfail, their power game will be too much for Yarrabah to handle.”
