Atherton saddles up for night of rodeo action

- BRONWYN FARR

THE Great Northern Bullriding Series Finals will be held at Mungalli Creek Dairy Stadium at Atherton for the first time on Saturday with gates opening at 5pm and the main event at 7pm.

Event spokesman Nathan Brown said the event would feature the toughest bulls and riders as the finals of the 2021 Great Northern Bull Riding Series.

“But the event will be more than just bull riding, it will be a night to shine the light on Make a Wish Foundation – the ‘Make a Wish Round’ proceeds from the night will go to the Foundation,” he said.

Well-known bucking bulls including Apollo Creed, Suicidal and Crazy Trucker are making the trip north along with champion bull riders from a number of Australian rodeo associations.

The 2021 Great Northern Bull riding series champion will head to Texas to compete at Fort Worth, mixing it with the best on the world stage of bull riding.

Mr Brown said the bucking chutes and small arena would be set up on the football field close to the grandstand to enable spectators to get up close to the action.

The event gained special permission from Tablelands Regional Council for free camping.

“Make it a family weekend, pack up the kids and the tent and come out and support the Make a Wish foundation,” Mr Brown said.

There will be a Ringers Western merchandise truck for all your latest western wear, entertainment, giveaways, a licensed bar and food stalls offering a range of treatrs.

After the bull ride there will be a DJ at the bar ahead of the series final after-party at BV Hotel.
