BANS ON UNVAXXED CAN’T GO ON FOREVER

- Jennifer Spilsbury Editor

BUSINESS owner Aron Bradshaw has built up his health bar over almost 20 years. He’s weathered all sorts of threats to his business, even the pandemic to this point, while others have fallen. But now, as we look to reopen, Mr Bradshaw and others like him face another fight for survival.

The Snoogies Health Bar owner describes himself as “pro vaccine choice”, which means his decision not to get vaccinated could lock him out of his own business.

Earlier this week, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced only the fully vaccinated could enter pubs, clubs, cafes, restaurants, cinemas, theatres, music festivals and stadiums from December 17.

Mr Bradshaw is a health food advocate willing to stand by his personal and professional principles, even if it could ultimately cost him everything.

He is exploring launching legal action against the latest Covid mandate to stop shop closures.

Whether you agree or not with his choice not to be vaccinated, there is one concerning omission from this country’s roadmap.

So far there has been no real discussion about when bans will be lifted for the unvaccinated. The onus at the moment is on getting the majority of Australians vaccinated and in the Far North, that has been a struggle.

Whether our governments are choosing to delay this announcement to ensure lax Aussies get on with getting the jab or not, dividing our country is not good in the long term.

For business owners like Mr Bradshaw, he’s made a choice and he could pay dearly for it.

He deserves to know a date for when bans will be lifted. If 90 per cent double dose is the goal, health organisations had better be prepared for an ongoing education and awareness vaccination campaign, because we can’t shut some people out forever.
