Hotspot for tree changers
RAINFOREST properties in Kuranda are being targeted by tree changers seeking peace and privacy, with prices in the district up by 11.7 per cent over 12 months.
First National Kuranda agent Wayne Vowles said he was seeing increases closer to 15 to 20 per cent.
He cited the example of a property in the village purchased for $450,000 in 2018 and sold recently for $620,000.
“I’d say it’s 60 per cent southerners and locals 40 per cent,” Mr Vowles said.
“They are after acreage, a lot have previously visited Kuranda and love it, and the climate appeals because it is cooler than Cairns.”
Ray White Cairns Beaches agent Sonia Poole said demand for Kuranda properties was strong.
“People want tranquillity and serenity, and there’s more value for money than for properties on Cairns beaches or Redlynch,” she said.
“It’s about lifestyle, space, and privacy.”
