Just another night in Paradise
GUESTS at a Far North charity event have been invited to banish the winter blues and enter a tropical mindset to benefit the region’s sick children.
For the second straight year, the Cairns Marlin Coast Lions Club will host A Night in Paradise at the Kewarra Beach Resort.
This year all funds will go to the Ronald McDonald House.
Marlin Coast Lions Club volunteer Carolyn Breach said the success of the first one meant it would now become an annual event.
“We were looking for an activity which would be a big fundraiser and we came up with this idea of having a charity auction,” she said.
“So we called it A Night in Paradise because we’re in paradise and we hold it a beautiful room at the Kewarra Beach Resort where you think you’re in Bali.”
Ms Breach said it would be nice to have an event where people could get a bit dressed up.
“We do all the organising,” she said.
“People come along and receive three free drinks and we provide canapes.
“We also have some live entertainment.”
Ms Breach said Ronald McDonald House was a worthy destination for the funds to go to.
“The children that are in Ronald McDonald house are hospital patients. “The house also supplies education programs for them, and that’s just an example of the costs that people don’t know about so we thought we could help boost their funds,” she said. “We are really fortunate in that local businesses support us for events like this so we have some really good auction prizes.
Ms Breach said the committee of 34 members also do regular Bunnings sausage sizzles to help bring money in for good causes and support various groups.
Tickets are $50 and the event will be held on Saturday, August 13. They can be purchased on the Marlin Coast Lions Club Facebook page.
