Bright boy wins cup

-

Stawell trainers Terry and Karina O’sullivan shared in the spoils at the annual Great Western Cup meeting.

The O’sullivan team had consistent type Brightlight Boy lining up in a benchmark-58 event over 1600 metres.

Declan Bates was in the saddle, taking over from Jessica Eaton, who won on the horse at his last start.

Bates, in a midfield position, with cover, gave Brightlight Boy a good ride.

The Brilliance gelding continued to travel sweetly, and didn’t spend a penny in the gallop.

When balanced for the run home, Brightlight Boy got a split in the straight, and began to finish off strongly.

Brightlight Boy took the lead in the shadows of the post, scoring by a neck.

Godolphin visit

Global racing giant Godolphin made its inaugural trip to Great Western, and captured the 1850-metre $30,000 Great Western Cup courtesy of Nozomi. Trained by Lee and Anthony Freedman, the son of Street Cry was given a peach of a ride by Liam Rioden, and was too good, winning by almost two lengths.

Wildwood good

Horsham trainer Simon Gebert returned to the winners circle courtesy of his handy galloper Wildwood Court, at Mt Gambier. Horsham jockey Holly Mckechnie was aboard the five-year-old for the benchmark-64 handicap over 1400 metres.

A patient display from Mckechnie saw Wildwood Court settle toward the rear of the field.

The Court Of Jewells gelding enjoyed a quiet run, and was produced prior to the dogleg, making up good ground.

When in the straight, Wildwood Court dashed away, fighting hard to the line to score a narrow but tough win.

Lad too good

Horsham trainer Paul Preusker continued his good form at the Mt Gambier meeting with Dangle Lad.

The Testafiable gelding came home with a wet sail, to clinch the benchmark 56 handicap, with stable jockey Holly Mckechnie aboard.
