Ad­vo­cacy group seeks mem­bers

A Grampians dis­abil­ity Ad­vo­cacy Wim­mera group is on the hunt for new mem­bers to strengthen the group’s ca­pac­ity to bring about pos­i­tive change.

The group meets four times a year in Hor­sham, with the aim to im­prove the lo­cal en­vi­ron­ment for peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties.

Mem­bers have a lived ex­pe­ri­ence of dis­abil­ity, care for a per­son with a dis­abil­ity or work in the dis­abil­ity sec­tor.

Group fa­cil­i­ta­tor and ad­vo­cate Trudy Joyce said a core group of ded­i­cated, com­mit­ted and tal­ented peo­ple were on board, but mem­bers would like to in­vite any­one else in Hor­sham or the sur­round­ing dis­trict to join them to find out more.

The group also in­forms Grampians dis­abil­ity Ad­vo­cacy Board about is­sues that af­fect peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties liv­ing in Hor­sham and the wider Wim­mera.

Ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Deb­o­rah Ver­don said Grampians dis­abil­ity Ad­vo­cacy pro­vided ad­vo­cacy sup­port from Bacchus Marsh to the South Aus­tralian border.

“It’s very im­por­tant that the board and man­age­ment stays in touch with the things that mat­ter to peo­ple liv­ing in Hor­sham and be­yond,” she said.
