Lead­ing bowlers in Hor­sham

Some of the best lawn bowlers in Vic­to­ria will be in ac­tion at Cough­lin Park in Hor­sham on Sun­day for Bowls Vic­to­ria pro­vin­cial cham­pi­onships.

Al­most 100 competitors in rep­re­sen­ta­tive teams from Wim­mera, Bendigo-cam­paspe, Cen­tral Vic­to­rian and Gee­long teams will play in the an­nual ti­tles, which visit each re­gion ev­ery four years.

Wim­mera re­gion sec­re­tary Ken Dodds said the cham­pi­onships rep­re­sented the high­est level of bowl­ing com­pe­ti­tion in the re­gion for many years.

“We’re talk­ing about some of the high­est pro­file and best play­ers in the state in­volved in high-level com­pe­ti­tion,” he said.

“If peo­ple in the Wim­mera are keen to see top bowls and top bowlers in ac­tion then they should drop into Cough­lin Park from 9.30am on­wards on Sun­day.

“This is a rare op­por­tu­nity to see the game played at an elite level in our own back­yards.” The cham­pi­onships in­clude six teams in each of the four re­gional rep­re­sen­ta­tive out­fits.

The event sched­ule in­volves a 9.15am wel­come, two trial ends at 9.30am be­fore a morn­ing round gets un­der­way at 9.45am.

Wim­mera re­gion pres­i­dent Bob Pritch­ett will wel­come teams at a 12.15pm lunch be­fore af­ter­noon rounds two and three get un­der­way at 1.15pm.

At the end of play, of­fi­cials will present medals to play­ers and the Austin Roberts Memo­rial Shield to the man­ager of the win­ning re­gion.
