Leading bowlers in Horsham
Some of the best lawn bowlers in Victoria will be in action at Coughlin Park in Horsham on Sunday for Bowls Victoria provincial championships.
Almost 100 competitors in representative teams from Wimmera, Bendigo-campaspe, Central Victorian and Geelong teams will play in the annual titles, which visit each region every four years.
Wimmera region secretary Ken Dodds said the championships represented the highest level of bowling competition in the region for many years.
“We’re talking about some of the highest profile and best players in the state involved in high-level competition,” he said.
“If people in the Wimmera are keen to see top bowls and top bowlers in action then they should drop into Coughlin Park from 9.30am onwards on Sunday.
“This is a rare opportunity to see the game played at an elite level in our own backyards.” The championships include six teams in each of the four regional representative outfits.
The event schedule involves a 9.15am welcome, two trial ends at 9.30am before a morning round gets underway at 9.45am.
Wimmera region president Bob Pritchett will welcome teams at a 12.15pm lunch before afternoon rounds two and three get underway at 1.15pm.
At the end of play, officials will present medals to players and the Austin Roberts Memorial Shield to the manager of the winning region.
