• Chris Scott resigns
Mark Knights will step in as temporary Wimmera Health Care Group chief executive after the resignation of Chris Scott.
Mr Knights, deputy chief executive, will fill the role until the conclusion of a recruitment campaign to find a new leader for the health group.
Mr Scott resigned after 13 years in the position.
Health group chairwoman Angela Murphy announced the decision to staff on Friday.
Ms Murphy said Mr Scott had successfully led the health service to become a vibrant organisation, delivering exceptional care, and which was in a financially sound operating position.
“With his contract nearing conclusion and the hospital now in a strong position, Chris felt it was the right time to move on and make way for new opportunities and leadership to take WHCG into a new era,” she said. “Chris is looking forward to a well-earned break”.
Under Mr Scott’s leadership the heath group consistently met and exceeded all targets set by the Department of Health and Human Services. In recognition of this performance the Wimmera Health Care Group has been announced as a finalist in the prestigious Victorian Premier’s Health Service of the Year awards.
“This accolade is exemplary and Mr Scott and his management team are to be commended,” Ms Murphy said.
She stressed the new chief executive’s main priority would be to ensure the health service continued to offer the best care possible for the Wimmera community.
“In the meantime our outstanding executive team will work with Mr Knights to keep planning for the new wellness centre, aged-care redevelopment and ensure all health group services and projects are on track,” she said.
“On behalf of the board, I thank Chris for his years of dedicated service and look forward to an exciting future for Wimmera Health Care Group.”
