Plans ready for Murtoa station

-

Member for Lowan Emma Kealy expects plans for a new police station at Murtoa to be released for public viewing and comment soon.

Ms Kealy said plans for the new station had been submitted to the Yarriambiack Shire Council for planning approval.

“While it is fabulous news that the Murtoa Police Station will be rebuilt, we need to be sure the new facility will meet both the needs of our local police officers and the expectations of the local community,” she said.

Ms Kealy said the current station included demountable buildings with limited space and ongoing sewerage issues, presenting significant occupational health and safety risks.

“Our hardworking police officers do an outstanding job with extremely limited resources and are doing their utmost to protect our people, uphold the law and ensure our communities are safe,” she said.

“It is essential these officers are provided with suitable premises to support our police to do the best job they possibly can.

“At the same time there are community expectations that need to be considered, such as access and building aesthetics.

“Releasing the plans for public viewing and comment will ensure that everyone’s needs are considered and the best outcome is achieved for both our local police officers and the local community.”
