Volleyball season approaches

-

Volleyball Horsham officials are taking entries for the competition’s upcoming summer season starting on February 20 for juniors and C Grade and February 22 for A and B grades.

The association is looking forward to building on momentum from last season, which had numbers push over the 200 mark.

With the success of teams at various competitions towards the end of 2016, there is optimism for more teams coming forward in 2017. The association caters for all players from juniors to A Grade. Boys and girls can compete at a level suited to their ability in mixed teams, while males and females from the corporate world can play together in C or B grades.

Teams and individuals interested in participating have until February 15 to register.

Phantoms excitement

Volleyball Horsham was well represented at the first trial camp for the Phantoms Volleyball Club in Bendigo.

More than 70 players from across western Victoria participated in the two-day camp, which gave coaches of all five teams the opportunity to look at players for their respective teams for the state league season starting March 25.

The club has signed a major sponsorship deal with the Bendigo Stadium, confirming five home games at the venue.

Apart from numbers, it was the quality of players who attended that stood out for all coaches.

This will enable the club to build greater depth and push honours in season 2017.

The increased interest has resulted in the club making the decision to enter a Men’s division-three team for the first time, which will give those younger players the opportunity to gain greater experience.

There will be a final trial camp in Ballarat on February 25-26 for those who missed selection. Any players interested in playing for Phantoms in 2017 should contact me on 0487 824599. for higher
