Pink ladies raise $3300 for breast cancer awareness

-

Organisers of an annual Pink Lady Day at Horsham Golf Club were thrilled with the success of this year’s event, which raised $3300 for Breast Cancer Network Australia.

Monday golf co-ordinator Julie Obst said she was overwhelmed by the final figure, which would go to a cause close to many players’ hearts.

“Last year we were able to send $2000 to BCNA, which was great, but this year we raised $3300,” she said.

“We had 104 entries this year, down from 120 last year, so to make an extra $1300 with less players was amazing.”

Mrs Obst said she believed support from sponsors played a major role.

“We had a lot of interest in a Swarovski watch worth $600, donated by Mackay’s jewellers,” she said. “That, along with a lot of other great prizes helped us sell a lot of raffle tickets.” Warracknabeal’s Rina Dunstall won the watch. Golfers from across the Wimmera drew teams for a four-person ambrose. Horsham’s Marg Taylor, Alison Radcliffe and Kaye Gale teamed with Minyip’s Janice Midgley to win the back-nine competition.

The front-nine winners were Horsham’s Sally Hood and Colleen Dix, Toolondo’s Bev Reynolds and Rainbow’s Helen Fisher. “All up it was a great day,” Mrs Obst said. “Everyone was happy and there was a lot of pink in support of breast cancer. We are very grateful to all the people who played, along with those who made donations but couldn’t play.”
