Nine new youth voices

-

Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council will have nine new voices in 2017.

Hindmarsh Shire Council will launch its youth leadership team on Wednesday next week.

Mayor Debra Nelson said the council comprised students from Nhill, Rainbow and Dimboola colleges.

“Of the 12 appointed youth councillors, three were re-elected from 2016 meaning we have nine new councillors looking forward to providing an impact on directions and activities on behalf of their fellow youth throughout the shire,” she said.

Council chief executive Greg Wood said the council was proud of the applicants.

“We are eagerly anticipating the initiatives and directions they take as youth leaders within the shire,” he said.

“The youth council now has a responsibility to talk to other young people from across the shire and to gain their ideas and thoughts and turn them positive outcomes.”

Previous Hindmarsh Shire Youth Council projects include the running of Freeza events at Dimboola, Nhill and Rainbow; movie nights, helping with Halloween events at Dimboola and Nhill Lake Duck Races; school holiday activities; tree planting and introducing condom machines in the shire.

This year’s youth councillors will participate in a retreat on May 12, 13 and 14.
